Fulbright Scholar Kevin Antoine, JD

Kevin Antoine, JD, is an American Fulbright Scholar. A former Harvard University Administrative Fellow, he received a law degree from the College of William and Mary and earned a graduate certificate in Organizational Change from Cornell University. He received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a graduate of the State University of New York's (SUNY) Executive Leadership Academy. 

The SUNY Executive Leadership Academy is designed to provide provosts, campus vice presidents, and other executive level administrators with the skills they need to advance to, and excel in, the most senior level positions in higher education today.

Antoine is a leader and frequent speaker on diversity, civil rights, human rights, and healthcare policy. Notably he has been a speaker at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Society for Law Medicine and Ethics, and the Harvard School of Public Health. His publications include contributing book chapter exhibits regarding the application of international law to American health law. He has been a candidate for the U. S. Congress and the New Jersey State Senate.

In the early 1980s as an undergraduate at the University of Southern Mississippi, Antoine was the first African-American elected Vice President of the Student Government Association at a majority white university in the State of Mississippi.  In the mid 1990s as a candidate for the U.S. Congress in Mississippi's Fourth Congressional District, he was the first African-American to win a major political party's nomination (Democratic Nomination) in Mississippi's majority white Fourth Congressional District.  

In 2007 the documentary film about his campaign for the U.S. Congress, “The Candidate” won the Best Political Documentary Award at the New York International Film and Video Festival. In 2017 Antoine campaigned unsuccessfully to become the first Independent elected to the New Jersey State Senate. 

Antoine is a former US Air Force officer.  He served four years of active duty as an AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) air battle manager. Air Battle Managers control the skies in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes, air refueling, search and rescue efforts, surveillance, and the interception of hostile aircraft.
